Julie B Ceramics

I’m an Australian ceramic artist who focuses on simple practical designs for the table and also for decoration. I’ve always been interested in the functional and the handmade as it relates to everyday life. My practice is influenced by an interest in science fiction and the attendant theme of 'world making' or 'other worlds', and I find the not-quite-symmetrical nature of handbuilding essential to the uniqueness of each piece

In my sculptural art practice I apply the quiet nature of my functional forms to the making of autobiographical dioramas and architectural interiors, depicting institutional and domestic spaces I have encountered and adding an edge of the fantastic. My work has been featured in exhibitions at Mr Kitly, Little Woods Gallery, The Dolls House, Mailbox Art Space, the City Library, and Craft Victoria.

All of my work is hand-built (no wheel-work) in my studio on Wadawurrung country (Ballarat, Victoria).
